Psalm 69 Insight into the Passion of Christ with Fr. Agapetos from Holy Transfiguration Monastery

Psalm 69 stands among the most profound and prophetic laments of the Psalter. It is the voice of the suffering righteous one who cries out from the depths, “Save me, O God, for the waters have risen to my neck.” Abandoned, mocked, and wounded, David gives expression to the agony of one who bears reproach for God’s sake. Yet within his suffering there shines a hidden glory, for this psalm is fulfilled in Christ Himself.

The zeal for God’s house that consumes Him, the gall and vinegar offered to quench His thirst, the betrayal and mockery of enemies, all find their ultimate meaning in the Passion of our Lord. Through this psalm, the pain of human dereliction becomes a prayer of intercession, a path that leads from humiliation to thanksgiving and from death to redemption.

Join Fr. Agapetos as we explore Psalm 69 and its deep insight into the Passion of Christ. With the help of the Fathers, we will enter into the mystery of redemptive suffering, where human anguish is transformed into divine compassion and the song of lament becomes the song of salvation.

  1. Fr. Agapetos has a deep love for the psalms and his facility with languages allows him to open up the Word of God in a beautiful way and that speaks to the heart. Like the book studies with Philokalia Ministries, he pace is slow that invites one to linger long with the psalms and deeply internalize them. I hope you enjoy his great work. Please pray for him and all of the Monks of Holy Transfiguration Monastery.
